Whether you are just starting out in business, or have been solidly making it happen over the past few years, there is only one thing you need to do next year:

Grow Your List.

I’m writing this on December 31, and tomorrow starts 2015. But regardless of when you might be reading this, the number one thing you should be doing in your business will always remain the same.

Growing your email list is the No. 1 thing you can do in your business to:

  • Get more leads
  • Sell more products/services
  • Fill your group programs
  • Get referrals

… and pretty much will result in more money for you both in the short term, and over the long run.

If Facebook dissolved tomorrow, what good with any number of Facebook fans do? Or that group you created?

And, how would you sell your products/services/programs without Facebook ads?

If your website crashed, or you had it down temporarily for a redesign, how would you communicate with your followers?

This is why the only thing you need to focus on in 2015 (or at any point in your business) is to grow your list.

So, now that you know what you should be focused on – let’s talk about some ideas for how you can grow your list. In honor of the New Year, I’ve got 15 ideas for you below:

  1. Host a webinar.
  2. Create an email challenge/course
  3. Add a pop up to your website
  4. Optimize your 404 page to be an opt-in
  5. Install a Facebook tab to promote your opt-in offer
  6. Tweet a link to your opt-in every day
  7. Post a link to your opt-in on Facebook (at least) once a week
  8. Ask in your newsletters for you readers to share with their friends and colleagues
  9. Join a group telesummit as an “expert”, and offer a gift
  10. Get published on another blog or media website
  11. Create a new opt-in bribe once per quarter
  12. Add an opt-in after every blog post
  13. Leave a comment on someone else’s blog, if it links back to your website
  14. Create a gated page for your website
  15. Add hello bar to your WordPress website

There are millions of other ideas to grow your list, and you should try them all!

Your email list is where the money is in your business.

Which is why growing your email list is the only thing you need to focus on in your business.

    Awesome post. Having a list is like having car, can be a pain maintain, have to buy gas, but it is great to have. A list will ensure we all have an awesome 2015.

    My goal is to add 98 people a month to my list.

      Love that goal, Ned! It’s also super achievable and tangible. I think by just posting your opt-in offer across social media weekly, that can easily be achieved, let alone if you added more promotions! Good luck, and I hope you have an amazing 2015.

    Growing my list with people who are truly interested in being served by me is my goal this year. I have to eliminate efforts that do not work towards that goal.

      Absolutely! If your goal is to truly attract those ideal clients, who fit a profile, think about creating an opt-in that solves an immediate problem they face. Something they just have to have! I think that will help you weed out the weak links.
