My good friend and client recently asked me what I do to wrap up December, and close out my year.
And while I knew I did some things, I couldn’t think of anything on the spot!
But I decided to start thinking on it, and this is what I came up with for her – and for you!
#1 – DETAIL What Happened
If there’s one thing you do, I’d have to recommend this one the most for you to wrap up December.
Analytics are a game changer for business owners, and it’s so important to know your numbers so you can continue improving and growing.
If you’ve never tracked your business numbers before, use this month to get your baseline before heading into the new year.
But if you regularly check your business analytics and numbers, compare this year to last year to find out what areas you grew, and where you might have fallen back.
Another great detail step is even looking back and re-celebrating your wins (because we don’t do this enough!).
You can also make a quick list of anything that could have gone better, or things you’d do differently next year.
Without this step of starting to track what you’ve done, you’re going to keep repeating the same processes!
So make sure you DETAIL what happened in this year as you’re wrapping up December.
#2 – DELETE Everything You Didn’t Get To
Earlier this year on Instagram Stories I did a live desk clean out.
And I trashed / recycled dozens of old journals, workbooks, conference materials, and random papers that I had always meant to look back through – but never did.
The feeling of that was AMAZING!
And is now something I’ll be incorporating into an annual deletion of all the coulda, woulda, shoulda’s from the previous year.
- Delete any emails or bookmarked articles, you meant to read or reference, and never did this year.
- Throw out (aka delete!) old post it notes, random papers, and to do lists that you can’t even remember writing down, or what they mean!
- Delete your downloads folder of all those PDFs and eBooks you opted in for, and never used.
- Delete outstanding tasks in your Asana list, or Trello board, that relate to goals or projects you no longer have.
It’s so important to start the year without feeling like you’re behind or missing out!
And this step will help you with that.
#3 – DREAM a little
As you’re doing the Detailing and Deleting steps, you’re going to free up some energy.
Or maybe even be sparked with some creativity as you come across those buried post it notes!
So go ahead and dream a little, and choose one big goal for next year to be your main focus.
Can’t limit it to one? Keep it under four so that each project gets a quarter of focus in your next year’s schedule.
#4 – DO Just One More Thing
This “D” is inspired by a recent email I saw from Nikki Elledge Brown where she asked:
What do you want / need most to feel good + complete with 2021 — so you can start 2022 feeling clear, grounded, and capable?
I think this such an important step, to help us finish the year strong (even if it’s a tiny task!)
For me, I had two major goals for 2021:
- Personally, to run a 5K
- Professionally, to write my book (at least 20K words)
Both of those I can check off before the end of this year which feels great to be integrity with my past self, and also lets me go into the new year with new goals!
For one more thing I love to do before the end of the year, is plan the next one!
And so I’m excited to bring back my annual Plan Your Launch Calendar Challenge for 2022.
I say annual, even though I haven’t hosted it annually since December 2018!
If your one thing that would help you set up for the new year is planning, I’d love to have you click below and join!
Whether it’s the challenge, or a goal you need to re-focus on and wrap up before the end of December, choose just ONE thing you can do to set you up for a proud start to the new year.
#5 – DROP A Quick Note
This final D is a little inside tip I wanted to share with you!
I was inspired to send an email last December to every client I had worked with that year with a little note of gratitude – AND – to let them know I was available to continue working together.
It received a 100 percent response rate, and led to a lot of work that had me booked up through Q1!
So I’m sharing the template with you below, so that you can implement this as well and give your income a kickstart in the new year.
Hi <NAME>,
Before we wrap up 2021, I just wanted to thank you for choosing to work with me <PROGRAM NAME / SERVICE>.
I know this year was a difficult one for <IDEAL AUDIENCE>, but it was so great to be able to support you during your <WHAT YOU WORKED ON WITH THEM>.
And I know that the lessons you learned from this past <GOAL/WORK> will also help you going forward into your future ones.
If I can be of any help in working toward your 2022 goals, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
All the best,
<SIGNATURE>
